Posted: 1/21/2012 10:13:00 PM - The 2011-2012 playoff schedule has been posted on the website!
The coordinators for each division have the matrix for their division.
Please make sure that you have your parents schedule the time now.
The MSBL will not be changing game times or dates.
All teams must be sure that their team roster with player numbers and all coach information is submitted to bryantlitchfieldnh@yahoo.com
Posted: 1/8/2012 4:08:00 PM - The regular season is under way and there a few items that need to be covered. Please take the time to read each of the items and inform your parents and players. Information given to the coaches is done with the intent of preventing situations that develop where the MSBL board must make rulings that impact teams, players, coaches and parents. The MSBL board had less parent and coach and player problems last year than in previous years. The decisions that the coard has made have been very strict and the MSBL board will continue to enforce the leagues Code of Ethics with very little latitude.
Code of Ethics:
The three code of ethics MSBL policies are posted on the website. All teams should have emailed the information to all of their parents. If your program has a history of unruly behavior I would suggest that you print out a copy and have your parents sign the form. The MSBL expects the coaches to forward the information to their parents and players.
Jamboree:
I have received some suggestions on the jamboree format for next year. Some of the ideas have been prefaced with the statement, "I dont know how you will make this work but could you do this". I will need suggestions that encompass the entire MSBL program. A simple email of I liked it or I didnt like it at all will help the board get an idea of what the coaches think.
Right now I have 46 likes and 8 dont want to do it agains and 12 that would like it to be changed with some really good ideas and some that were not really sure how to change it.
Teams and Divisions:
There are 139 teams playing in MSBL this year with 19 divisions. Their will be 207 playoff games scheduled this year. The league has over 1400 players. My calculations say 1406 players. I may be off one or two.
Schedule of regular season games:
The coordinators have finished most of the schedules. Please assist them where you can. Cancellations and rescheduling of games are done by the coaches not the coordinators. Inform the coordinator of all changes to ensure the accurate information is on the website.
Away games and gym rules:
The MSBL expects the coaches to contact each other before each game and discuss the rules of the home team. (Where do you park, what time can you access the facility, is food or drink allowed in the gym, etc). Town policies in place are
o Brookline – no peanuts in school
o Derry – not to arrive before a set time prior to the start of the game
The home team not the MSBL has the responsibility of informing and enforcing their towns policies. If a home team has notified the visiting team of a home rule and it is violated the parent and the team will be in violation of the MSBL code of ethics and the MSBL board will take appropriate action to rectify the situation.
Pressing:
The MSBL encourages coaches to teach the fundamentals of basketball. The coaches by submission of their roster and by the participation of their team in MSBL have all agreed to abide by the following statement.
I will utilize a variety of game strategies, plays, and defenses which allow for highest level of
skill development for both my team and the opposing team.
The past MSBL boards and the current MSBL board feel that half court traps and full court traps should be used as a team strategy not as the teams primary offensive weapon. It is sad to watch a team that can set up a full and half court press but not be able to run an offensive play or shoot a layup. If your coaching philosophy is to press the entire game and your players can not make layups you are not teaching the game of basketball and you are not allowing for the highest level of skill development for your team and the teams that you are playing against.
Reporting game scores:
The documents tab has the format for reporting games results. Please use this format to assist the coordinators gathering of information. Both teams should report the scores. It is the home teams responsibility to maintain a scorebook for each game that they host.
Rosters:
The team roster that was submitted for each team should have been updated and returned to the division coordinator with your players jersey numbers and all assistant coach information. A copy should have been sent to me for the league and playoff files. Each division coordinator should send back out to all of their coaches the rosters of each team in the division with the player numbers on the rosters.
If a coach is not on the roster that I have for the playoffs he/she will not be allowed on the bench.
It is up to each coach to be sure that the coordinator and the league have the information requested.
Posted: 1/8/2012 4:08:00 PM - Post Season Competition:
The playoff format will be sent out over the next few weeks. Please look carefully at the dates and the times scheduled for your division. The scheduled times will not be changed. The early release of the dates will give all coaches the opportunity to have their parents adjust their schedules. The Londonderry Basketball tournament and MSBL have worked together to ensure that teams can play in the tourney in and in the MSBL playoffs without conflicts.
MSBL Website:
The MSBL website is the leagues primary tool of communication. Please check the site on a regular basis. The news and documents tabs get most of the general updates.
Items like the playoffs will have a tab under Organization. That list under organization will change throughout the season.
The website has good information that coaches should access. Some of the items are
Concussions, IAABO rules, NHIAA rules, Coaching strategies, tournaments and more...
League Meeting:
The next league meeting is scheduled for Febraury 6th at 8:00PM at the Old Bedford Town Hall.
There are proposed rules changes that will be posted on the website prior to the league meeting.
ALL coaches and program directors should plan on attending this meeting.
We will be voting on rules changes for the 2012-2013 season.
